About MEBO Research

Background

MEBO Research, Inc. was founded by Maria de la Torre, who lives in Miami, Florida, with the help of others from around the globe, to proactively pursue research to find diagnoses, treatment, and cure for all possible systemic body odor and halitosis conditions.  MEBO has been operating as a non-profit company and  is currently in the process of becoming a charity.  It is the strong opinion of the founder that the alternative is to maintain the status quo, i.e., to wait for the scientific and medical community to come up with significant research funding to carry out the much-needed research for us on its own initiative, which has not and would not render any positive results toward achieving these goals.

In order to achieve this, MEBO Research, Inc.'s primary strategy is to unite sufferers and experts from around the world to organize through multiple projects, including community forums, MEBO's blog which contains interviews and professional articles expressly written for our cause, and this website to then proactively raise funds through grant-seeking efforts to support scientific research, medical treatment as well as to raise social awareness.  United together with these goals and a well-formed strategy as noted below, will allow for a much greater chance of success in these endeavors.

It is hoped that this endeavor will result in significant data compilation of the symptoms manifested in these conditions initially through small case studies, while pursuing benefaction for large-scale scientific research and clinical trials to discover effective medical treatment. MEBO's efforts to be transparent will focus on keeping donators and readers updated of its financial activities. The amount of money raised, intentions, and spending of the funds will be transparent and published on this company website.

Strategy:

  • Small informal self-help or case studies : The self-help strategy involves informal ways in which sufferers can research the problem as a group under the expert direction of Board Member and Expert Consultant, Dr. Irene Gabashvili, PhD. An example would be to carry out financially peer-driven, informal studies from time to time in an attempt to detect and establish patterns in symptoms amongst the various body odor and halitosis conditions. These patterns may consequently be used for larger-scaled research endeavors. By establishing patterns in these small studies, it is hoped to contribute towards subsequent more efficient and on-target research projects, and to thus arrive at a more sophisticated treatment options. All informal self-help case studies' results: will be published in a timely manner while upholding the privacy of the individuals tested.
  • Transparency :   MEBO’s goal is to provide its supporters in this website with the as much financial transparency as functionally feasible so that the international community of participants and any other affected individuals will have a clear representation of from where all funds are originating and where they will be invested.
  • Raising social and political awareness:
    • Educating the public: With the recognition that society at large is uninformed about uncontrollable body odor conditions, it is one of MEBO’s chief objectives, with co-operation from the online international body odor community, to raise social and political awareness through public education projects, such as mail and email campaigns, media advertising, working with public school boards to promote awareness of body odor conditions in educational books and curriculum, hold public speaking sessions in schools, and other similar programs.
    • Special needs and accommodations: In addition to promoting social awareness of body odor conditions, it is MEBO's aim to raise political awareness with mail and email campaigns in an effort to define and legally protect the special needs and accommodations individuals affected by these conditions need in order to promote a healthy and productive work or school environment for everyone involved, sufferers as well as non-sufferers. These special needs and accommodations could be as simple as being allowed a more private work environment when needed and requested by the sufferer, including extending work hours if necessary to include additional breaks for grooming purposes, etc.
